Mauser K98 308 (24896)
- Mauser K98 rifle bearing “dot 45” reciever code, indicating it was manufactured in 1945 by the German Waffenwerke Bruenn AG factory in Brno, Czechoslovakia. Rifle was assembled either late or post-war and the reciever has been machine-buffed by the Czechs to remove German “waffenamt” proof marks on the action. This has been replaced by a small Czech lion on the left-hand-side of the action near the serial number.
- Rifle was part of the $12,000,000 deal for the Czechoslovaks to arm the fledgling Israeli Defence Force in 1948, and has accompanying Israeli Star of David proofmarks.
- Was converted to 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester as part of the Israeli program starting in 1956 to rechamber their K98s to standardise ammunition with the newly adopted FN FAL. Has accompanying “7.62” stamp on reciever above the German factory code as well as on the underside of the stock near the butt plate.
